2017 FESTIVAL UPDATE #10: VISITING PROGRAMMER KERRIE LONG
Our final visiting programmer that we'd like to introduce you to is Kerrie Long from the Edmonton International Film Festival.
For more than a decade, while raising 3 amazing daughters, Kerrie worked her way through the ranks at ACCESS Television, writing, production managing, directing and producing. In 2000, she began a freelance career and produced a number of feature-length documentaries, a t.v. pilot for CBC and a handful of short films. Then, the Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) came calling.
Thirteen years later, Kerrie manages EIFF year-round, programming all of the short film events and feature films. Just last year, EIFF was honored with ‘Oscar Qualifying Film Festival’ status and is on MovieMaker’s ’50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee’ for the past 3 years.
“I am passionate about the short film genre and believe that festivals with a film MAKER focus, who have practical, hands-on, experience in filmmaking will remain relevant for years.” says Kerrie Long (Festival Producer). “I am proud that our little-festival-that-could celebrates 31 years in 2017. Thank-you for the privilege to be here with you.”
Kerrie's short film selections, Irregulars by Fabio Palmieri, My Invisible Mother by Pascal Huynh, and Curve by Tim Egan will be screened at HIFF's "By Invitation" program on Friday, June 9 at 9pm at Neptune. A Q+A session with all of the visiting programmers will follow.
