Join the HIFF team! The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival is now hiring two positions: Festival Coordinator and Promotions Coordinator.
The 19th annual HIFF will take place May 28–31, 2025, at the Bus Stop Theatre.
PLEASE NOTE: These positions are funded through the Job Creation Partnership Program and candidates must be eligible for that program in order to be considered. See the eligibility requirements HERE.
Successful candidates will work-from-home leading up to the festival and on-site at the Bus Stop Theatre on and around the festival dates.

FESTIVAL COORDINATOR
The HIFF Festival Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing the planning, implementation and wrap-up of the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival. This position will work with HIFF’s Program Manager to produce a four-day festival which will include screenings, receptions, installations, and daytime panels.
JOB COMPONENTS:
Pre-Festival
Before the festival, the Festival Coordinator will work with the Program Manager to create, implement and manage an overall plan for the festival. This work will include: finalizing the schedule; working with festival partners; approaching sponsors and presenting partners; liaising with the screening venue; communicating with the festival designer; booking travel for guests; and planning the volunteer schedule.
During the Festival
During HIFF the Festival Coordinator will be responsible for working with the venue and venue staff, managing volunteers, managing box-office and ticketing, working with technical and projection staff, ensuring sponsorship agreement fulfilment and facilitating the needs of festival guests and delegates.
Post-Festival
Following the festival, the Festival Coordinator will be responsible for wrapping up all the festival business including payment of artist fees, return of equipment, return of print traffic materials, sponsorship thank yous, collecting feedback from audience and visiting guests, compiling festival metrics and assisting with final reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as some experience in event planning. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favourably but is not necessary. This is a learning position and the successful applicant will work with support and supervision from other HIFF staff and board.
PROMOTIONS COORDINATOR
The HIFF Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a promotions and marketing strategy for HIFF leading up to and during the festival.
JOB COMPONENTS:
Working closely with the Program Manager and other HIFF staff, the Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for: Coordinating and executing festival marketing campaign; designing promotional materials, print and digital; updating and maintaining HIFF website (SquareSpace); creating and sharing content regularly for social media; drafting press releases and composing HIFF newsletters; promoting HIFF-related events through various outlets; liaising with festival partners; researching and connecting with other organizations and groups; working closely with our festival branding designer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should possess promotions and/or marketing experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating graphics, and/or experience with design software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc) is required. The candidate should have experience with and knowledge of social media platforms, website software, bulk email client applications and basic office tools such as Word, Excel, and Google Suite. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favorably but is not necessary. Experience with SquareSpace will also be viewed as an asset. This is a learning position and the successful applicant will work with the support and supervision of other HIFF and AFCOOP staff and committees.
