In Kwon Min-pyo and Seo Han-sol’s Short Vacation, four middle-school girls ride to the last stop of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway in search of the end of the world. With just backpacks, snacks, and old cameras from their school’s photography club, they set out on a whimsical class project that soon becomes a quietly moving ode to facing the unknown.

Short Vacation is the first feature from Kwon and Seo, and mirroring the film’s adventure, it started as a school project, conceived during their studies at Korea’s Dankook University. The result is an assured, wise-beyond-its-years debut, one that forgoes narrative conflict to produce a cinema of pure joy, packed with moments as blissful and unstructured as summer break. —Evan Bower

A pre-recorded virtual Q+A with filmmakers Seo Han-sol and Kwon Min-pyo will follow the screening.
