After the Halifax explosion volunteers from the community went into the devastated areas searching for bodies. These bodies had to be identified usually with articles either on the body or in the debris left by the devastation. One of these articles, the red purse, is tagged and brought to the examining department to be scrutinized for identification to any number of bodies that might have been found in the vicinity. Inside the red purse is a letter that the examiner reads. From this forensic activity, the story of two young lives unfolds.

The Red Purse is part of Atlantic Auteurs Program One at HIFF 2018.
