2017 FESTIVAL UPDATE #3: Visiting Filmmaker - Sofia Bohdanowicz
Sofia is an experimental filmmaker based in Toronto who has showcased her work across Canada (TIFF, Hot Docs, VIFF), as well as at The Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente. Her first feature, NEVER EAT ALONE, is a genre-defying docu-drama about lost love, family and regret that premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival where she won the Emerging Canadian Director Award.
Sofia is an extremely hands-on director, often working within micro-budgets with little crew, doing all of the camera work herself. This autonomy gives Sofia’s work an unapologetic authenticity and has allowed her to create experimental work that is sincere and personal. She is currently in pre-production for her third feature titled Veslemøy’s Song and will be pursuing her MFA at York University in the fall.
HIFF will be screening Sofia’s short films, MODLITWA (A Prayer), WIECZÓR (An Evening), and DALSZA MODLITWA (Another Prayer), followed by her feature, Never Eat Alone on Wednesday, June 7 at 9PM at the Neptune’s Scotiabank Stage Theatre. Be sure to stick around after the screening to catch the Q+A session with Sofia.
-See you at HIFF!
