2017 FESTIVAL UPDATE #4: VISITING PROGRAMMER JASON ANDERSON

MEET HIFF VISITING PROGRAMMER: Jason Anderson (Toronto international Film festival)

Jason Anderson is a programmer for Short Cuts at the Toronto international Film festival and is the director of programming for the Kingston Canadian Film Festival. He writes regularly about film and music for such publications as Uncut magazine, Sight & Sound, Cinema Scope and the Toronto Star and teaches at the University of Toronto and the Ryerson School of Journalism.

Meet Jason, and our other visiting programmers, at "By Invitation" on Friday, June 9th at 9PM at Neptune's Scotiabank Stage Theatre.

Our "By Invitation" program provides a glimpse into the kind of work that is making an impact on the international festival circuit; meant to inspire and entertain our local filmmaking community.

The thing that makes this program special is not only the content, but the fact that it has all been hand-picked by four incredible programmers from acclaimed international film festivals: Toronto International Film Festival, Edmonton International Film Festival, Festival du nouveau cinema, and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. The visiting programmers will be in attendance for HIFF and will take part in a Q+A session following the "By Invitation" screening.

In addition to their contributions to the "By Invitation" program, the visiting programmers also take part in the "Programmer Initiative". This component, which is available to all our our "Atlantic Auteurs" filmmakers allows local filmmakers to have one-on-one sessions with the visiting programmers with the intent of getting Atlantic Canadian content on the big screen at other festivals. This program has already seen six NS films screened at FNC, and seven at VIFF. We are excited to see what comes of this year's Programmer Initiative!
